Two days ago our under-18s won through to the semi-finals of the Lancashire FA Youth Cup with a penalty shoot out win to complete a good week for Tony Philliskirk’s team who kicked off the week coming from behind to win 3-1 at Stoke in the U18 Premier League.

We kicked off that game at Stoke in eleventh place in the table but travelled home having moved up to fourth although we knew we would drop again once the Saturday games had been played. We did drop to ninth but in a table so close that we sit three points behind Manchester United in second place and three points ahead of Stoke who are next to bottom.

Blackburn kicked off the week six points clear at the top and, despite being held to a draw by Everton, remain six points clear. Liverpool and Wolves were the two teams closest to them but Liverpool were beaten by Middlesbrough while Wolves drew with Derby. Manchester United, with their win at Nottingham Forest, are second and have a game in hand on Blackburn.

We’ve had the same leaders for some time in the north but no so in the south where the lead has changed again. Leicester went top a week earlier after beating previous leaders Fulham but they led the table for just one week.

Last week they were held to a 3-3 draw against West Brom and that’s allowed both Chelsea and Southampton to go above them on goal difference; new leaders Chelsea won 4-3 at Crystal Palace, another team who have spent time at the top, and Southampton won a remarkable home game 6-3 against Aston Villa.

Result of the day? It has to be Norwich. They’d lost all previous seven games but beat Birmingham 3-1. They are still bottom but now trail Reading by just one point.

There are no fixtures this week because of the international break but there is a full fixture list next week.

This week’s featured player is left-back Dane McCullough who joined the Clarets from Portadown in August last year.

The League Tables and our Fixtures and Results can be found within U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
