1819 burnley ali koiki 00 500x500After last Friday’s 2-2 draw against West Brom in the Premier League Cup, it’s back to Professional Development League action this afternoon for Steve Stone’s under-23s with a trip to Crewe Alexandra.

We go into the game in second place in the northern group. We are one point behind leaders Leeds so any sort of positive result this afternoon will take us to the top of the table although a defeat would see Crewe, who are currently fifth, go ahead of us.

Whatever happens, it is bound to be a better performance than in the same fixture last season when we were beaten 2-0 with a side that included both Dean Marney and Fredrick Ulvestad in the midfield. Only five of the starting line up from that game, played at the end of October last year, remain with the club and goalkeeper Aidan Stone is currently out on loan.

The four who started the game last season who could feature today are Oliver Younger, dependent on him recovering from injury, Ali Koiki (pictured), Tunde Bayode and Tinashe Chakwana.

The home side expected to field club captain George Ray who has been out recently with a rib injury.

Kick off is at 1 p.m. at Alexandra Park, Reaseheath which is Crewe’s training ground.
