Our under-23s have gone down to a 5-2 defeat against Division 2 champions Leeds this afternoon and that’s made our hopes of a play-off place look very slim.

A goal down at half time, it was quickly 2-0 before Anthony Gomez Mancini (pictured) pulled one back to give us hope of a comeback. Leeds then won the first of two penalties which saw two players farcically fight their corner to take it before Sam Greenwood stepped up to make it 3-1.

Within three minutes we’d pulled it back to 3-2 through leading scorer Max Thompson and that gave us twenty minutes to try and at least get an equaliser and a much needed point. It wasn’t to be, seven minutes later and Leeds had scored another two in a second half when they could have scored more.

It’s left us needing Crystal Palace to lose their final game while hoping Sunderland lose both theirs if we are to remain in with a chance of the play-offs.

Burnley fielded two trialists today in the back four who we believe are Aston Villa right back Brad Burton and Watford central defender Bayli Spencer-Adams. Both are aged 19 and while Burton has come through the academy at Villa, Spencer-Adams was signed last summer by Watford from Arsenal.

The teams were;

Leeds: Kiko Casilla, Cody Drameh, Leif Davis (Stuart McKinstry ht), Charlie Cresswell, Gaetano Berardi (Jamie Shackleton ht), Oliver Casey, Niall Huggins, Jack Jenkins, Sam Greenwood, Liam McCarron, Rodrigo (Crysencio Summerville ht). Subs not used: Elia Caprile, Bobby Kamwa.

Burnley: Marc Richter, Jack Burton, Richard Nartey, Anthony Glennon, Max Thompson, Anthony Gomez Mancini, Josh Benson, Ne-Jai Tucker (Dara Costelloe 53), Rob Harker, Lewis Richardson. Subs not used: Harry Allen, Jake Rooney, Finlay Armstrong, Joe McGlynn.
