A win against bottom team Bolton last Saturday would have seen our under-18s climb to fifth in the league but we were only able to secure one point from a 1-1 draw and that’s seen us drop a further place to eighth in the eleven team northern group of the U18 Professional Development League.

1920 burnley dylan moonan 00 500x500It’s clear where our problems are this season, it’s scoring goals. We have games in hand but our current total of nine league goals scored is the lowest in the division and that includes three when we beat current league leaders Wigan who, having played three games more, have now scored a total of 28 goals.

Wigan scored another four last Saturday, winning 4-2 at Leeds who are having a difficult season this time around.  The result maintained their four point lead over Nottingham Forest at the top of the league; they’d beaten Sheffield Wednesday 1-0.

The league table could changed considerably with some teams having played more than others. We’ve played just seven, the same as Sheffield United, but everyone else has played more games and there’s no doubt that a decent run of results would see a dramatic climb.

There’s no change at the top of the south group either with the top two both winning. Watford beat third place Millwall, pushing them down to fifth, while Charlton were winners at bottom team QPR.

This week’s fixtures give us an opportunity to move up the table. We travel to Birmingham and a win would definitely take us up one place with the two teams directly above us facing each other.

The player featured this week is midfielder Dylan Moonan who is a first year scholar.

The League Tables are updated as results are confirmed and can be found with our Fixtures and Results within U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
