A third minute goal from Sam Unwin (pictured) gave Burnley an early lead against Manchester United who kicked off this morning’s game at the top of the U18 Premier League.

But that goal was good enough to give the young Clarets all three points on a day when latest signing Benn Ward lined up in defence and Tremaine Eastmond, now a second year scholar, was finally able to make his debut having recovered from injury.

It’s a fifth win of the season for us in this league having previously beaten Stoke, Sunderland, Leeds and Everton but this scalp, added to a big win against them in the U17 cup during the week is an absolutely superb start for us in 2021.

The Burnley team was: Sam Waller, Keelan Williams (Jacob Hamilton 90+7), Dan Sassi, Benn Ward, Dane McCullough, Kade Ratchford (Finlay Armstrong 70), Dylan Moonan, Corey Brennan, Will Hugill, Tremaine Eastmond (Will Couch 55), Sam Unwin. Subs: Charlie Casper, Ruairi Behan.
