Clarets remain sixth as under-21 league leadership changes
Having had a tough run of results in the previous four games, the under-21s have been back in form over the past few days with two wins, one in the league and one in a cup semi-final.
Tommy McDermott scored the two goals in the league win against Charlton last Sunday and that result enabled us to remain in sixth place in the table although Hull, who won twice against Wigan and QPR, have now moved within two points of us.
Looking up, we are one point behind Fleetwood and a further two points behind Barnsley. We have a game in hand on both, and we play Barnsley tomorrow afternoon.
A week ago, Sheffield Wednesday had moved to the top of the league. They’ve since had to sit and watch them lose that first place. With no game, they saw Birmingham go ahead of them with a home draw against Cardiff on Monday but Sheffield United remain the likely champions. While Birmingham were drawing, they beat Watford 5-0 with William Osula, who has made nineteen Premier League appearances this season, helping himself to a hat trick.
Sheffield United are now just four points behind Birmingham and three behind Wednesday with four and three games in hand respectively.
Six points separate the top two in the south. Millwall currently lead the way, six points ahead of Bournemouth in second and eight and nine points above QPR and Swansea. All of them have four games still to play.
There are twelve north/south games in this coming week alongside four north group games and two in the south. Again we play twice with a trip to Swansea next Tuesday to follow tomorrow’s game.
The player featured this week is Murray Campbell who scored his first under-21 goal yesterday in the cup win against Stockport.
