Jack Yates was Burnley’s first ever England international and Martin Dobson became the 24th in 1974. For a long time I thought that would be it, certainly in my life time, but the superb news tonight is that Jack Cork has made his England debut and taken the total to 27 following on from debuts made by Tom Heaton and Michael Keane in the last 17 months.

Like Keane, Cork has made his debut against Germany. It was only a brief appearance; he replaced West Brom’s Jake Livermore in the 86th minute, but hopefully he’ll now get some more game time in the next game against Brazil to get another chance to impress Gareth Southgate as we prepare for next year’s World Cup in Russia.

Congratulations to Jack from us here at Up the Clarets.
