Quite often, when we are linked with a player, I’m asked whether I have an article ready should he sign and it was a resounding yes three years ago when we looked to be on the verge of signing West Brom defender Craig Dawson.

Burnley kicked off the 2014/15 season with Michael Duff and Jason Shackell occupying the two central defensive berths and it was known that Sean Dyche was keen to bring in another central defender with Kevin Long the only back up following the release of Canadian international David Edgar.

Everything pointed to former Rochdale player Dawson who, we were all led to believe, was keen on a move back to the North West having been with the Baggies for four years. It didn’t happen; he went on to sign a new contract at the Hawthorns and Dyche, instead, made a last ditch move to bring in Manchester United’s young central defender Michael Keane on loan.

Had Dawson signed, the likelihood is we’d never have seen Keane in a Burnley shirt but now he’s once again being linked with a move to Burnley with suggestions once more that he’s keen on a return to the North West where it is believed he is currently having a house built.

Having said that, it could be a case of déjà vu. Once again he’s one year away from the end of his contract at West Brom, where he currently plays at right-back, and once again they are keen to secure him on a longer term deal.
