Burnley’s fourth away win of the season last Saturday at Goodison will long be remembered for the second Burnley goal scored by Dwight McNeil.

Not as though the first goal from Chris Wood wasn’t a good finish but Dwight’s was special, a stunning strike after going past Allan. His overall performance was highlighted by Alan Shearer on Match of the Day and with good reason, it was a standout performance from him throughout the game that has won him both our man of the match and player ratings.

He won over half of the man of the match vote, 56% to be precise with midfielder Josh Brownhill, who I thought had his best ever Burnley game, in second place with 16%. Just behind Brownhill was Matěj Vydra in a very special month for him. He polled 14% while Ben Mee too fourth place with just 4% of the vote.

There was a different look to the player ratings but not first place with McNeil winning it with a rating of 8.82 out of 10. It was Wood, scorer of that first goal, who was second with 8.34 while Mee took third place with 8.21 and Brownhill came in fourth with a rating of 8.19 out of 10.

It all means a maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year for McNeil. Brownhill won four points, there were three points for both Mee and Wood and two points for Vydra.

With neither of the top two picking up points it leaves Nick Pope six points ahead of James Tarkowski although Mee’s three points have now brought him 22 points behind Tarkowski in third place.

After the large amount of games in February, last Saturday was our final game in March because of the FA Cup and the international break. I don’t think it will be a surprise that Vydra has won the player of the month for his performances against Leicester, Arsenal and Everton and likewise no surprise to see Wood in second place.

The next vote will be in just over two weeks time after the Southampton game at St. Mary’s on Sunday 4th April.

The Everton result is below, followed by the player of the month result and the current player of the year table.
