Much has been said about Jimmy Dunne’s performance for Hearts in the, shall we say, feisty derby against Hibs this week. Hearts fans took to message boards and social media to praise his latest outstanding performance for the Edinburgh club.

Asked whether he would be keen on extending his loan, Dunne told the Edinburgh News: “I would be delighted with that but I’ll leave that to them. It would be amazing. The manager told me it would be a great help to the team if I could keep being there.

“There’s a lot for me to learn and I’m in a great place to keep learning and educate my defending. That’s what we talk about. I’m still developing and this is a brilliant place to be. What the manager (Craig Levein) said was a brilliant compliment and I’m chuffed to bits. I’m really enjoying myself here. It’s a great place and I’m in a great position.

“I’m just focusing on my own football and letting the other stuff work around me. Being on the pitch is the most important thing to me. Where I’m going to do that is where I want to be.”

His next game will be against Celtic at Celtic Park as the top two in the Scottish Premiership go head to head for the second time in a week; Celtic won the Scottish League Cup game 3-0 last week at Murrayfield.

Dunne, who recently celebrated his 21st birthday, is certainly making an impact at clubs on loan. Last season it was Barrow and then Accrington. He returned from both with praise ringing in his ears and that looks likely again whether his stay stretches beyond January or not.

He’s certainly gaining experience; Wednesday’s game was his 50th first team game for the three clubs he’s been with on loan.
