Hendrick and Wood share the honours in Norwich win
After his late goal won us a point at Brighton, Jeff Hendrick was given his first league start of the season against Norwich in a game that saw Burnley win 2-0 with two Chris Wood goals in the opening 14 minutes.
The result might just have been 2-0 but this was a comprehensive victory for the Clarets with Hendrick in outstanding form on the right hand side while Wood contributed so much to the performance alongside his two goals.
These two players have taken the top two places in both the man of the match vote and the player ratings with Hendrick, for the second successive game, winning the vote and with the same 35%. Wood wasn’t too far behind with a 27% share, to take second place, with Erik Pieters claiming third place with 12% and Ashley Westwood coming fourth with 11% of the vote.
The same four players won the top four places in the player ratings too with the only change seeing the top two swap places. Wood was the winner here with a rating of 8.48 out of 10, and that was just in front of Hendrick who scored 8.40. Pieters, having his best game yet at left back, had a rating of 8.02 and in fourth place was Westwood whose excellent midfield performance won him a rating of 7.85 out of 10.
That result has given both Hendrick and Wood eight points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with four points for Pieters and Westwood winning two points. It’s rare for James Tarkowski not to win points, but he still has a big lead at the top of a table which has now seen Hendrick move ahead of Ben Mee, Nick Pope and Ashley Barnes to take second place whilst Wood has moved into sixth place.
