Hull are the visitors to Turf Moor tonight and that brings their manager Shota Arveladze here for the first time since he took over from Grant McCann in January of this year.

Speaking yesterday, Arveladze admitted that it could be a difficult game for his side who have started the season so well, and he was pointing the finger at Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola for making it so.

He believes we are implementing a style of play influenced by Guardiola and he said: “I am expecting the same high quality with the ball (as City). Kompany probably spent too much time with Pep. He knows the ball needs to move. You must have the right angles and passes and they do that. It will be a tough game. We fully respect every opposition in this league and we are going to try and stop them.

“All the games so far were quite tough. Each team has had different styles. The ball hardly stops with Burnley which makes things a little bit difficult.”

He is delighted with their start to the season and asked how it had gone: “Out of ten?” he said. “Eight, if you look at the points. Also, we are so close to not having many points. When you look at the seven points (their current total), the games have been so tight. On Saturday, against Norwich, it was 2-0 at one point but it could have easily went 2-2.

“The effort the players put in is great for us as staff. When you see how that combines with the positivity from supporters, it is a great energy for us. It hurts us when we don’t do well and we always look for reasons why, when that happens.”

Despite losing at Watford, Vincent Kompany remains very positive and said: “If we keep our performances high, then I think we will get the results we deserve. If you look at this one game (Watford), then you are maybe disappointed with the result, but I hope we can keep these performances going and maybe for longer spells. I believe, if we continue like this, over time it will give us the results we want.”

He added: “I look at our team and I think over time it is a team that is capable of putting a run together and if it happens early doors then we will be happy. This team needs end results and development time. There are so many details that I see in our game, that if we improve those then results will come because of that.

“This period of time is almost equally important to win the games, as to spend a lot of time improving the players, but one has to come first. Then you get consistent results and you can start talking about winning five or six in a row.”

Asked what he thought we could expect from Hull, he used Watford as an example. “It is always expect the unexpected,” he said, adding: “On Friday, he (Watford boss Rob Edwards) switched from a back five to a back four for the first time in 53 games, so you have to be ready. I think our team adapted well to that and you just have to be prepared. So, with Hull, we have seen everything they have done and we will expect the unexpected.”
