West Midlands referee Oliver Langford will take charge of tomorrow’s game at Reading in what will be his third Burnley game this season having previously refereed the home game against Bristol City and the away fixture at Swansea.

It will be tenth occasion he will have refereed us, the first of which was at Doncaster in 2011, a game that ended in a 1-0 defeat on the night that Charlie Austin made his Burnley debut. He was downright awful that night, as he was at Swansea in his last Burnley game, but he’s had some decent games between those which has left him 18th in RATE THE REF with a rating of 51.71 out of a hundred.

He’s a very experienced referee having been taking charge of Football League games since the start of the 2008/09 season, getting his first Championship game at QPR in September of the following season.

Now a Select Group 2 referee, he’s even taken charge of a Premier League game. That was at Chelsea in August 2019 when he was scheduled to be the fourth official. He stepped in when match referee Graham Scott was held up.

This season he’s refereed a total of 26 games, 17 of them in the Championship, five in League One, three in League Two and one in the FA Cup. There have been a total of 97 yellow cards and one red card in those games. Forty of those yellow cards have gone to home team players with 57 to away team players. The one player he has sent off is Norwich’s Kenny McLean in their 1-0 home defeat against Luton in October.

Langford’s most recent game was Bristol City’s 2-1 win at Stoke on Good Friday. The only player yellow carded in that game was Stoke’s Josh Laurent.

Fourth official tomorrow is Simon Mather who performed the same duties in last Monday’s win against Sheffield United. He hasn’t refereed a Burnley game.
