1718 burnley dean marney 00 500x500With eight games remaining in the season, the speculation is starting as to which players might be moving to which clubs in the summer, particularly for those players who are set to come out of contract at the end of June.

Dean Marney is one such player. Although he’s been on the bench on a number of occasions in the last two to three months, he hasn’t kicked a ball in the Premier League since he was stretchered off at Arsenal in January last year with his second cruciate ligament injury in two years.

This morning he’s been linked with a potential move to Nottingham Forest with Aitor Karanka seemingly keen to take him to the City Ground on a Bosman free transfer.

Now 34, there will be speculation regarding his future, more so given that we’ve added players such as Ashley Westwood and Jack Cork for the midfield positions since he sustained his injury and they are alongside Steven Defour and Jeff Hendrick who were already at the club.

Only Kevin Long has been at Turf Moor longer than Marney who, I think it is fair to say, has become a firm favourite with the Turf Moor crowd, certainly since the first of the two recent promotion seasons when his partnership with David Jones was a key factor.

He’s played over 200 league games for the Clarets since moving to Turf Moor from Hull in the summer of 2010 where he’d enjoyed the two previous seasons in the Premier League.

But, it is nothing right now other than pure speculation and there will be plenty of that over the next few months, leading up to and then within the transfer window.
