Luke McNally was our second signing in what proved to be a busy transfer window last summer when he made the switch from Oxford United, but, having found himself unable to break into the first team, he’s been allowed to go out on loan to get some first team football there.

The now 23-year-old Irish defender has made just two league appearances for us, at Watford and Sunderland, coming on in the 89th minute for Josh Cullen at Watford and in the same minute for Taylor Harwood-Bellis in the win at Sunderland.

He got his first start in the home win against Crawley in the League Cup and, more recently, played over an hour of the FA Cup tie at Bournemouth when he was introduced for the injured Harwood-Bellis, playing very well too after a nervous start.

With us having signed two central defenders in this window, his opportunities were set to be even more limited and he’s now going to get a better opportunity of some first team football with Coventry for the remainder of the season.

Coventry boss Mark Robins said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Luke to Coventry City. Luke is a very talented footballer, who is strong defensively. He’s big and athletic, and strong in the air, and is a very good addition to our squad. We look forward to working with Luke between now and the end of the season.”
