There were a number of good individual performances across the team in last Saturday’s 3-0 win against Bournemouth but it was Dwight McNeil who finished in first place in both the man of the match vote and the player ratings.

Dwight had a particularly good second half. He got an assist on the first goal, scored the third, hit the post and also provided us with one of the best moments of the game with his run down the left and superb ball into the box from which Jay Rodriguez saw his shot saved.

His performance won him 41% of the vote for the man of the match ahead of Matěj Vydra who got his first start since November 2018 and opened the scoring. He picked up a 36% share while fellow striker Jay Rodriguez and goalkeeper Nick Pope took the next two places with 8% and 5% of the vote respectively.

Those same four players were in the top four in the player ratings too. McNeil was again the winner with a rating of 8.68 out of 10 while Vydra scored 8.41. This time it was Pope in third place with a rating of 8.30 while 8.14 out of 10 secured fourth place for Rodriguez.

That result gave McNeil the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with Vydra winning six points along with three points each for Pope and Vydra. They haven’t made much difference to the table with James Tarkowski still way ahead and Ben Mee in second place although McNeil now sits just sixteen points behind his captain in third place.

Our next vote will be underway this Saturday after our away game at Newcastle and below is the Bournemouth result followed by the current player of the year table.
