McNeil on top in Villa defeat
Burnley’s recent run of good results came to an end last Saturday when Aston Villa became the seventh team to beat us at home in the Premier League this season.
It was a day and performance that was highlighted with some of the marks in the player ratings but Dwight McNeil was the player on top, winning both the ratings and the man of the match vote.
No player came close to reaching the seven out of ten for a good performance but McNeil had the highest rating of 6.57. He was one of only four players to reach six for average with James Tarkowski coming second with 6.29. Maxwel Cornet was only on the pitch from the 66th minute but claimed third place with 6.21 while Nick Pope was fourth with a rating of 6.05 out of ten.
McNeil was a clear winner for the man of the match, winning 48% of the vote. Cornet came second with 13% while Josh Brownhill and Nathan Collins were next with 10% and 8% of the vote respectively.
It’s given McNeil ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year and Cornet has won five points; There are also three points for Tarkowski, two points for Brownhill and one point each for Collins and Pope.
It’s left us with three games to play and Tarkowski, who could be ruled out for the remainder of the season, 21 points ahead of Pope. Of course, it would be much better if all the points from these remaining games went to the forwards for scoring the goals to keep us up.
There is a battle for third place with Collins now leading McNeil and Charlie Taylor by just one point.
The first of those last three games comes this Sunday at Spurs and we will have the vote and ratings in place as soon as possible after the final whistle.
