Burnley started last week five points behind leaders Leeds United in the Professional Development League. We were in fourth place but another big win has moved us up to third with Bolton taking over at the top of the league.

Leeds were beaten at Crewe and that enabled Bolton, winners against Sheffield Wednesday, to take top spot while we moved ahead of Birmingham who were beaten at home against Sheffield United.

1819 burnley ali koiki 00 500x500It was our seventh win of the season and took our points total to 22 from twelve games. We are now just three wins and 12 points short of last season’s final total.

It was a big week too for left-back Ali Koiki (pictured). With both Phil Bardsley and Stephen Ward out of the reckoning for the first team, he travelled to West Ham last Saturday but was back in the team for Monday’s game when he had another outstanding game at left-back.

But it is up front where things are going really well for us at the moment. We have now scored more goals than any other team in the league and we have eight more than Leeds who are next best in the north group.

Strike pair Dan Agyei and Tinashe Chakwana are leading the way. They are two of five players in the league to have scored eight goals and with a couple of cup competitions, both have now reached double figures.

It’s a tight league with fifth place Birmingham just five points behind the leaders but in the south, Ipswich are five points clear of the next three. They drew 2-2 against Millwall who had kicked off in second place but have now fallen behind QPR and Crystal Palace on goal difference.

There is only one league game this week and that’s the south group game between Crystal Palace and Colchester. For most others it is back to Premier League Cup action and, having lost 7-1 at Bournemouth in our first game, it couldn’t be much more daunting as we face a trip to Liverpool on Sunday.

Our next league game is against Nottingham Forest at home a week on Monday. This game is currently scheduled to be played at Tameside Stadium, home of Curzon Ashton..

The League Tables and the Premier League Cup Group Tables will be updated as results are confirmed. They can be found along with our Fixtures and Results in U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
