No change at the top of the youth league as big clubs win
The week started with Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City occupying the top three places in the U18 Premier League North Division and the three remain there having all won their games, scoring thirteen goals in the process.
The two Manchester clubs won last Saturday. City beat Sunderland 5-0, a familiar score for that particular Manchester club, while United beat Newcastle 4-1. Liverpool then needed to beat us last night to regain their lead at the top which they duly did with a 4-1 victory.
Conceding four against them might have been a disappointment to us but this is a Liverpool team who had already scored four against Everton and Newcastle this season while netting five goals against Stoke and Leeds. Only Newcastle among that group were able, like us, to score a goal.
Middlesbrough were right up there with the top three but they’ve dropped to fifth with defeat against Wolves who have now gone above them in the table. We are currently a very creditable eighth with ten points from our ten games. That leaves us well clear of the bottom three, Leeds, Blackburn and Sunderland.
Leicester’s 1-1 draw at Spurs was the big surprise in the South League. With Crystal Palace losing at Aston Villa, the point enabled Spurs to move into second place in the table and for Leicester it was a first point of the season in their ninth game. It looked odds on a ninth successive defeat too until Wanya Marcal-Madivadua scored a last minute equaliser for them.
Moving into the final month of the year, we are without a game on this first weekend which sees four games in the north and three in the south.
Our featured player this week is first year scholar, midfielder Kade Ratchford.
