Burnley’s hopes of reaching the knock out stages of the Premier League Cup came to an end tonight when Middlesbrough came from behind to beat Blackburn Rovers 4-1 at Bishop Auckland.

Our chances were on a knife edge when we travelled to Crystal Palace yesterday but we kept them alive with our 1-0 win, but it still needed us to go and beat Blackburn in two weeks time alongside Middlesbrough losing both their final two games against Blackburn and Palace.

That wasn’t to be tonight when a strong Middlesbrough team, including Ryan Shotton and George Friend, claimed their own place in the knock out stage of the competition alongside Blackburn from Group B and the final games will decide which of them will win the group.

Sixteen teams will go through to the knock out stage and already through alongside the two from our group are Exeter, Doncaster, Bournemouth and Derby.

Our final game will be played on Thursday, 20th February against Blackburn and will be played at the Globe Arena, home of Morecambe.
