Taylor to referee us for fourth time this season
Anthony Taylor will referee a Burnley game for the fourth time this season when he takes charge of our home game tomorrow against Newcastle United.
It follows the away game at West Brom and the home games against Everton and Brighton and in total this will be his 19th Burnley game and his 15th in the Premier League. It won’t be his first Burnley v Newcastle game either having refereed this fixture back in the 2018/19 season.
While being Burnley game number four this season, he’s also refereed two Newcastle games thus far, their 2-1 home defeat against Leeds in January and more recently their 3-0 defeat at Brighton.
This season he’s refereed a total of 22 domestic games with all but the Chorley v Wolves FA Cup tie in the Premier League. He’s shown 62 yellow cards in those games, 31 each to home team and away team players. He’s also given out three red cards, the most recent of them was Tyrone Mings in Aston Villa’s 3-0 Boxing Day home win against Crystal Palace.
There were five players yellow carded in his most recent game which was Manchester City’s 2-0 win at Leicester last Saturday. He carded Leicester pair Daniel Amartey and Wilfred Ndidi along with Manchester City’s Ederson, Rodri and Fernandinho.
Fourth official tomorrow is Paul Tierney whose last Burnley game was the home win against Aston Villa in January. Stuart Attwell will be on VAR duty. He might not have refereed a Burnley game in over two years but this will be the eighth time this season he’s been responsible for a Burnley game at Stockley Park, seven of those since January.
