Looking for a first point of the season, the under-23s will play Wolves tonight at Turf Moor, the first time we’ve played on our home ground at this level in almost two years.

We played three of the first four home games on the Turf in the 2019/20 season, all ending in draws against Coventry, QPR and Nottingham Forest with that Forest game ending in a 1-1 draw on 23rd September 2019.

Whatever we get tonight, I don’t think the finish will be quite so dramatic. Leading 1-0 with an Ali Koiki goal, and dominating the game, we conceded an equaliser right at the end but still should have won it only for Koiki to fail from the penalty spot in the final minute.

That game was in the Professional Development League but now in Premier League 2, we go into the game next to bottom in Division 2 and still looking for our first point of the season. That really should have come against Sunderland last time out when we led 2-0 at half time only to lose 3-2.

Wolves have made a better start. They have won both home games, beating Middlesbrough 2-1 and recording a 1-0 victory against Nottingham Forest. They have been beaten in their only away game, suffering a 3-0 defeat at Reading.

Last season’s home game against them, played in January at Gawthorpe, ended in a 0-0 draw with us losing the away game 3-2 on 12th September last year with Lewis Richardson and Max Thompson scoring our goals in what was our first ever Premier League 2 game.

Tonight’s game kicks off at 7 p.m. Admission is free to season ticket holders on production of their season card; admission for non-season ticket holders is £4 adults, £2 concessions.

Supporters unable to attend will be able to watch via the Wolves YouTube channel.
