Our under-23s are back at Curzon Ashton this afternoon for what is the fourth of our six group games in this season’s Premier League Cup with Middlesbrough our visitors.

It was back in October that we kicked off this season’s games in this competition with a 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough up at Bishop Auckland. Scott Wilson had given us the lead but a hotly disputed penalty, one the referee had already waved away, late in the game saw the game end 1-1 and Burnley’s coach Steve Stone, who we haven’t seen since, yellow carded.

Eight of the squad that day are now out on loan which means it will be a very different looking Burnley team who will look to get a result to give us some hope of getting into the knock out part of the competition.

The Blackburn v Crystal Palace game, due to be played on Friday, was called off which means all four teams have played three games. Blackburn are top with nine points with Middlesbrough in second place with four points. We have two points, having also drawn against Crystal Palace, while Palace themselves are bottom with one point.

The Palace game ended 2-2. Ali Koiki got our first goal with goalkeeper Adam Legzdins scoring a dramatic late equaliser. Our most recent game was the one played at Ewood Park where we were beaten 2-1 with our goal scored by Rob Harker (pictured).

Please note that today’s game at Curzon Ashton kicks off at 1 p.m.
