Win takes youths up two places
The under-18s beat Hull City 3-2 two days ago and that result has moved us up to fourth in the league as the league takes a break until 2020.
Two players from the under-16s, Couch and Behan, made their debuts in this latest game that saw us go into a 3-0 half time lead before being reduced to ten in the second half and then seeing Hull pull two goals back.
Most recent signing Max Thompson (pictured) opened the scoring, beating the visiting goalkeeper in a one-on-one, and then captain Cricky Conn-Clarke scored twice. The first came from a free kick with the second scored from close range.
We looked to be coasting but Corey Brennan, who had come on as a substitute, picked up two yellow cards and that left us facing the closing stages a player short. Hull pulled two goals back but we hung on to move ahead of both Crewe and Barnsley in the table and into fourth place.
Nottingham Forest, in third place, are just one point ahead of us but there is more than daylight between us both and the top two. Wigan lead with 35 points, followed by Sheffield United who have 30 points. Forest are a further six points behind so there will have to be a big change in the second half of the season if the top two are to be displaced.
We will have the regular weekly reviews back in the new year but below are all the results since the last update. They are followed by the next fixtures, Burnley’s goalscorers and the current league tables.
The League Tables are updated as results are confirmed and can be found with our Fixtures and Results within U23/U18 Stats on the top menu.
