After Spurs, we needed a good performance against Leicester three days later and we got one in a 1-1 draw that was so close to being a win and would have been but for Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The game signalled a return to the starting eleven for Chris Wood. He’d come on at Spurs but this was his first start since coming off injured at Chelsea in January and what a performance he gave us, his best of the season and worthy of winning both the man of the match and the player ratings although he had fellow striker Matěj Vydra chasing him all the way.

Wood polled 32% of the vote to win the man of the match, narrowly ahead of Vydra who won 29%. The two strikers were then followed by the two full backs. Charlie Taylor, who had an outstanding second half in particular, was third with 15% with 12% of the vote giving Matt Lowton fourth place.

The same four players took the top four places in the player ratings too. Wood won a rating of 7.89 out of 10 with Vydra, who scored our goal, coming second with 7.69. This time the full backs swapped over, Lowton with 7.67 coming ahead of Taylor who scored 7.61 out of 10.

This result has given Wood ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with Vydra winning six points. Both Lowton and Taylor picked up three points. With none of the top three winning any points it has made little difference to the table although Taylor, in fourth place, has now moved within eight points of third place Ben Mee.

We will have the Arsenal result tomorrow to bring us up to date. Below is the Leicester result and the player of the year table after that game.
