With the change in the weather, and having had Saturday’s home game against Hull city postponed, the youth team should be back in action this afternoon with a trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

We should have played there on 9th December but it was one of three away games called off in the last month of 2017, along with those at Barnsley and Hull which have both been rescheduled in April.

It was back in September that we played Wednesday at home. We went into the game in second place in the table with Wednesday just one place and two points behind us although they had a game in hand. They were unbeaten at the time.

We thought this might be our most difficult game of the season at the time and it certainly looked that way in the opening period. When they went in front with only nine minutes gone, they’d already hit the woodwork, seen another effort saved well by Adam Bruce and also missed a good chance.

By the 36th minute the scoring was complete. Burnley won the game 3-1 with all three goals scored by Jordan Cropper (pictured) and Burnley went joint top of the league. Cropper is still the leading goalscorer this season although he’s now playing almost exclusively as a right back.

We go into today’s game level on points with Wednesday on 34 but a win for either side will see them move up to second and behind leaders Bolton who currently have 39 points.

The game will be played at Sheffield Wednesday’s Middlewood Training Ground which is on Middlewood Road, S6 1SW. It is very close to the stadium at Hillsborough.

The game has been put back one hour and will now kick off at 12 noon.
