Both the youth team and the under-23s recorded victories tonight at Harrogate Town and Stalybridge Celtic. One was comfortable but the other required a late comeback.

That late comeback was at Harrogate where the home club’s under-19 team led 1-0 until seven minutes from the end with the Clarets then equalising before scoring a last minute winner.  Burnley’s very young team included a number of trialists and it is believed the two goals were scroed by Mitchell George and trialist Lewis Richardson.

1718 burnley olatunde bayode 00 500x500Over at Stalybridge, we never really looked back from a dramatic start that saw us go 2-0 in front with only nine minutes gone.

The first of them came via a long ball out from goalkeeper Conor Mitchell. Rob Harker, signed from Bury this summer, latched onto it and did really well to lift the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper and into the net.

Ntumba Massanka scored the second from close range. This one was all about the run from Tunde Bayode (pictured). He then released Harker who played the perfect ball across from the right for his fellow striker to score from close range.

There were opportunities for more goals in the first half but we couldn’t quite add to the tally and at the other end we had to be alert on a couple of occasions as Stalybridge threatened. When the next goal came it completed the scoring in a 3-0 win just a few minutes into the second half. Chris Conn-Clarke got to a ball from Ed Cook; it was blocked but Tinashe Chakwana forced the ball home.

Burnley always looked the most likely but twice Oliver Younger had to make important blocks and Stalybridge might have done better with a couple of efforts that flew over the bar.

We did have the ball in the net one more time but Michael Fowler was ruled offside with what looked a very close call.

The teams were;

Stalybridge: Elliott Wynne, Callum Spooner, Stephen Rigby, Liam Tongue, Danny Brady, Glenn Rule, Luke Wall, Ross Dent, Eddy Maieco, John Marsden, Matty Wolfenden. Subs: Billy Akrigg, Charlie Duke, Greg Wilkinson, Jack Taylor, Lee Neville.
