We were beaten 2-1 last Monday by West Ham at home having been in front through  Chris Wood penalty and for Wood, who had another good game, it was a third successive man of the match performance.

He had an outstanding game at  Old Trafford against Manchester United, followed that up with his hat trick at Wolves and while no scoring as big in the player ratings this time was once more the winner of both the man of the match vote and the ratings.

He polled 26% of the man of the match vote to take first place ahead of Charlie Taylor who was second with a 21% share. Josh Brownhill took third place with 11% while 9% of the vote secured fourth place for Nick Pope.

Only two players reached the average six out of ten performance in the player ratings. Wood was the winner with a rating of 6.75 with Pope coming second having scored 6.41. Taylor was third with 5.86 and that was just ahead of Ben Mee who won fourth place; his rating was 5.80 out of 10.

It’s given Wood ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with Taylor winning five votes alongside four points for Pope, two for Brownhill and one point for Mee.

That has increased Pope’s lead at the top of the table to seven points over second place James Tarkowski. Mee, in third place, is a further 24 points behind. Then comes the challenge for fourth place. It’s currently held by Dwight McNeil on 67 but he’s only just ahead of Taylor (66), Matěj Vydra (64), Wood (63) and Brownhill (62).

Four games to go and the next man of the match vote and player ratings will be underway after the game at Fulham tomorrow.
