The under-23s return to league action today against Norwich City as we look to extend our unbeaten run in league and cup to seven games.

Having suffered defeat in each of our first three games this season, all in the league, things have turned round since we beat Rochdale in the Central League Cup just over five weeks ago. We’ve followed that up with two wins and two draws in four league games before adding the Premier League Cup win against Sheffield United on Monday this week.

Although we still sit in 11th place in Premier League 2 Division 2, we’ve moved ever closer to the teams above us with seven of the teams just three points or less above us.

One of those teams is Norwich who have ten points, two more than us. They’ve beaten Southampton, Sunderland and Aston Villa, all of those wins coming in the first four games. A draw at Reading followed but they’ve lost both of their last two games and both of them at home against the top two in the league West Brom and most recently Fulham.

In this fixture last season, played at Curzon Ashton, we found ourselves 2-0 down at half time but came back to earn a point from a 2-2 draw with goals in the last 16 minutes from Lewis Richardson and Dara Costelloe (pictured).

Today’s game was originally scheduled to be played on the Turf with a 7 p.m. kick off but was switched over a week ago. It will now be a behind closed doors fixture at Gawthorpe, kicking off at 1 p.m.
