Burnley have left themselves with a number of players coming out of contract this summer and Aaron Lennon appears to have become the first of them to reject a short term deal and that will see him depart at the end of this month, in ten days time.

Andy Jones has revealed in The Athletic of Lennon’s decision and that will mean he will not be available to Sean Dyche for the final six games of this season which will all be played in July.

Any short term deals must be agreed by 23rd June, next Tuesday, and we still have Phil Bardsley, Joe Hart, Jeff Hendrick and Adam Legzdins in that position with Dyche believed to be very keen to keep Bardsley and Hendrick beyond and into future seasons.

Lennon was close to joining Burnley in August 2017. We couldn’t quite get the deal over the line but he did sign in the next window as the Clarets pursued a place in Europe. He’s gone on to make 46 league appearances for us, scoring once in last season’s 4-0 win against Bournemouth.

Now 33, he’s made 16 appearances this season with four of those starts. He came on for Hendrick as a substitute in our last game which was against Spurs, one of his former clubs.
