Striker Joel Mumbongo has today joined League One club Accrington Stanley on a season long loan, this coming after the Clarets activated a contract extension for a further year.

Mumbongo, who has been with the Clarets for two years, broke into the first team last season and made his debut as a substitute in the FA Cup tie against MK before coming on at Chelsea for a Premier League bow.

He will now spend the 2021/22 season with Accrington and their manager John Coleman said on completing the signing: “He has really impressed me every time I have watched him. He will add strength to the attacking areas. He is quick, physically strong, and he is a no nonsense centre forward, the type I like.”

Mumbongo said: “I am happy here, I feel like this is the right place at the right time for me. It’s a good move for me, to be able to play games and show people what I can do. I am a powerful striker, quick in behind and a threat. Scoring goals is my job and I want to make an impact.”
