Pope saves give him top billing in Spurs cup tie
Nick Pope was beaten just once but made three big saves last week when we went out of the League Cup, giving Nuno Espirito Santo his final victory as Tottenham Hotspur manager with Lucas Moura scoring to give them a 1-0 win.
It is Pope’s first man of the match award this season and he doubled up with winning the player ratings, also for a first time this season.
He polled 40% of the vote for the man of the match and was followed by the two defenders recruited last summer. Nathan Collins, who has deputised so well for Ben Mee, was second with a 27% share and Connor Roberts was in third place on his debut. Josh Brownhill was fourth with 7% of the vote.
It was the same top two in the player ratings and the only two to score over seven for a good performance; Pope’s rating was 7.69 with Collins scoring 7.07 out of 10. The returning Mee was third with 6.93 and Roberts took fourth place with a rating of 6.59 out of 10.
That result has given Pope the maximum ten points towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year. Collins won six points, with three points for Roberts, two for Mee and one for Brownhill.
McNeil still leads the player of the year table, two points ahead of Tarkowski but Collins is now just a further two points behind in third place. Pope has moved up to fifth in the table.
