The under-18s are back at Gawthorpe tomorrow, looking to get back to winning ways after going down to a 2-1 defeat at Leeds that has seen us drop to fourth in the U18 Professional Development League with Leeds moving into third place.

1819 burnley chris conn-clarke 00 500x500The Leeds defeat means we’ve lost our last two away games, the other against current leaders Sheffield Wednesday, and tomorrow it is second place Nottingham Forest who are at Gawthorpe for the return fixture with us having drawn 1-1 in the away game just seven weeks ago with our goal coming from Cricky Conn-Clarke (pictured).

It is likely to be a very inexperienced Burnley team. With the under-23s probably making a call on some of our players and a number of our second year scholars currently out on loan, there could be places again for under-16 players alongside first year scholars.

The fixture last season ended in a 4-4 draw. Australian Sam Layton gave us a 1-0 lead with a 25-yard strike but Forest were quickly level. But it was Burnley who grabbed the initiative towards the end of the first half with a sensational volley from James Clarke and Will Harris firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the box to give us a 3-1 lead.

Forest pulled one back in the second half from the most dubious of penalty awards and then it all went wrong with Forest, in the space of two minutes, drawing level and then going 4-3 up, a scoreline they hardly deserved.

Three minutes it took us for Harris to get his second to take it to 4-4 and it remained that way although there were chances at either end.

As for tomorrow, kick off is an hour later than usual, at 12 noon.
